New mars mission
Exciting! There are several new Mars missions planned or underway. Here are a few:
- NASA's Perseverance Rover: Launched on July 30, 2020, this rover is exploring Jezero Crater, a 45-kilometer-wide impact crater that was once home to a lake. The rover is searching for signs of past or present life on Mars and studying the planet's geology and climate.
- European Space Agency's (ESA) ExoMars rover: Scheduled to launch in 2022, this rover will search for signs of life on Mars and study the planet's subsurface. It will be equipped with a drill that can collect samples from up to 2 meters below the surface.
- NASA's Mars 2022 Orbiter: This orbiter will study the Martian atmosphere and provide communication relay services for future Mars missions. It's scheduled to launch in July 2022.
- China's Tianwen-1 mission: Launched in July 2020, this mission includes an orbiter, a lander, and a rover. The rover is expected to touch down on Mars in May 2021 and study the planet's geology and search for signs of life.
- United Arab Emirates' Hope mission: Launched in July 2020, this orbiter will study the Martian atmosphere and climate. It's expected to arrive at Mars in February 2021.
- NASA's Mars Sample Return mission: This mission, planned for the late 2020s, aims to return samples from Mars to Earth for further study. It will involve a rover that will collect samples and store them in tubes, which will then be retrieved by a separate spacecraft and returned to Earth.
- ESA's Mars Sample Return mission: This mission, planned for the late 2020s, is a joint effort with NASA. It will involve a rover that will collect samples and store them in tubes, which will then be retrieved by a separate spacecraft and returned to Earth.
These are just a few examples of the many exciting Mars missions planned or underway. Each mission brings us closer to understanding the Red Planet and its potential for supporting life.
