Italy locked down the worlds 8th biggest economy
I think there may be a slight mistake there!
Italy is a significant economy, but it's not the 8th biggest economy in the world. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the top 8 economies in the world (by nominal GDP) are:
- United States
- China
- Japan
- Germany
- United Kingdom
- India
- France
- Brazil
Italy's economy is significant, but it ranks around 15th or 16th in the world, with a nominal GDP of around $2.3 trillion.
That being said, Italy did impose a national lockdown in March 2020 to combat the spread of COVID-19, which had a significant impact on its economy. The lockdown was one of the most severe in the world at the time, and it led to a significant contraction in the country's GDP. However, Italy has since lifted many of the restrictions and is working to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic.
