Tag meek mill sentenced to prison

Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison on November 17, 2017, for violating his probation from a 2008 drug and gun conviction.

The sentence was handed down by Judge Genece E. Brinkley in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, despite the prosecution's recommendation for a sentence of 6-8 months in prison.

Meek Mill's legal team had argued that the rapper had been unfairly targeted by the criminal justice system and that the sentence was excessive. They also pointed out that Meek Mill had been on probation for nearly a decade and had not committed any new crimes.

The sentence was met with widespread criticism and outrage, with many celebrities and activists, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Colin Kaepernick, speaking out in support of Meek Mill. The case drew attention to issues of racial bias and mass incarceration in the United States.

Meek Mill was released from prison on April 24, 2018, after serving nearly 5 months of his sentence. His release was granted after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered his immediate release, citing that the sentence was "unjust" and that Meek Mill had been "unfairly treated."
