Singapore elected president without vote

I think there may be some confusion here!

In Singapore, the President is not elected through a direct vote by the people. Instead, the President is elected through an electoral college system, where the members of the electoral college are chosen by various groups, including:

  1. The Members of Parliament (MPs)
  2. The Mayors of the 5 municipalities
  3. The Chief Clerks of the Supreme Court and the State Courts
  4. The Judges of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal
  5. The Cabinet Ministers

These members of the electoral college vote to elect the President, who serves a six-year term. The President is required to be a Singaporean citizen who is at least 45 years old and has been a Singaporean citizen for at least 10 years.

The President's role is largely ceremonial, with some limited powers, such as:

  1. Signing bills into law
  2. Appointing judges and other high-ranking officials
  3. Serving as the symbolic head of state
  4. Playing a role in the country's defense and security

The current President of Singapore is Halimah Yacob, who was elected in 2017 through the electoral college system.
