Sassa Warns SRD Grant Beneficiaries Against Constant Change of Bank Details

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has warned beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant against constantly changing their bank details.

In a statement, Sassa said that it has noticed a trend of beneficiaries changing their bank details frequently, which can lead to delays or even the suspension of their grants.

"We urge beneficiaries to exercise caution when changing their bank details and to only do so when absolutely necessary," said Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi.

Letsatsi explained that when a beneficiary changes their bank details, it can take up to 30 days for the new details to be verified and processed. During this time, the beneficiary may not receive their grant.

"Constantly changing bank details can also lead to errors and delays in the payment of grants, which can have a significant impact on the beneficiary's livelihood," Letsatsi warned.

Sassa advised beneficiaries to only change their bank details when they have a legitimate reason to do so, such as when they open a new bank account or when their existing account is closed.

Beneficiaries are also reminded to ensure that their bank details are accurate and up-to-date to avoid any issues with their grant payments.

Sassa is responsible for the administration of the SRD grant, which is a social assistance program aimed at providing financial support to vulnerable individuals who are in need of assistance.

The agency has been working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the grant payment process, and has implemented various measures to reduce errors and delays.

Beneficiaries who are experiencing difficulties with their grant payments or who have questions about the SRD grant can contact Sassa's customer service center for assistance.
