Here is Psalm 31 in the Good News Bible (GNB):

Psalm 31

A Prayer for Help

  1. In you, Lord, I have taken shelter; I trust in you and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
  2. You are my rock, my savior, my God, my rock where I take shelter. God is my rock, my savior, my God, my rock where I take shelter.
  3. How long will you forget me, Lord? How long will you hide your face from me?
  4. How long must I struggle with anguish within my soul, with sorrow in my heart all day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?
  5. Send me your light and your faithful care; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.
  6. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
  7. Why are you so downcast, my soul? Why are you so troubled within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my savior and my God.
  8. My God, I trust in you; I trust, Lord, and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
  9. All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my downfall. All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my downfall.
  10. But you, Lord, are my shield; my honor and the One who upholds my dignity.
  11. With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead to the Lord.
  12. I pour out my soul to you, Lord; I tell you my trouble, for you listen to me.
  13. Free me from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather around me, because you have dealt kindly with me.
  14. You who are my friends, do not stand by and watch, or you will become like me.
  15. But let your eyes be on one who is honest and good, whose eyes are on the Lord.
  16. I will trust in you, Lord; I will trust in you, Lord, for you have been my help. You have made my heart strong, and you will help me.
  17. I will sing of your salvation; I will sing of your salvation, and say, "You are my God!"
  18. You have been my help; and in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice. My soul will also be satisfied, as with the richest of foods.
  19. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
  20. You have given me a new song to sing to you, O God, a song of praise in the temple of the Lord.
  21. The Lord gives me strength, and he makes my way safe.
  22. I will trust in you, Lord, and I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
