Nysc mourns as member killed during shiites protest buried
It's with a heavy heart that I report on the tragic loss of a NYSC member who was killed during the Shiites protest and has now been laid to rest.
According to reports, the deceased NYSC member, whose identity has not been disclosed, was among the many victims of the violent clashes that erupted during the Shiites protest in Abuja. The incident occurred on October 29, 2020, when the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiites, took to the streets to protest the detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The NYSC member, who was serving in the FCT, was reportedly caught in the crossfire between the protesters and security forces. Despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has since mourned the loss of its member, describing it as a "great tragedy" and a "painful loss" for the organization. In a statement, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The burial of the NYSC member took place on November 1, 2020, with dignitaries from the NYSC, the FCT, and other organizations in attendance. The ceremony was marked by tears and tributes to the fallen youth, who was remembered for his dedication to his service and his country.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers and uncertainties that many young Nigerians face as they serve their country through the NYSC program. It is a painful reminder of the sacrifices that many have made in the pursuit of peace and stability in our nation.
May the soul of the deceased NYSC member rest in peace, and may his memory inspire others to continue serving their country with courage and dedication.
