Nnpc set to take measures to curb oil theft

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced plans to take measures to curb oil theft in the country. According to a report by Vanguard, the corporation has identified several strategies to combat the menace, including:

  1. Installation of surveillance cameras: NNPC plans to install surveillance cameras at its facilities and pipelines to monitor activities and detect any suspicious behavior.
  2. Strengthening of security: The corporation will strengthen its security personnel and work with other security agencies to prevent and detect oil theft.
  3. Improved monitoring: NNPC will improve its monitoring of oil production and transportation to detect any discrepancies and take prompt action.
  4. Collaboration with stakeholders: The corporation will work with other stakeholders, including oil companies, security agencies, and government agencies, to share intelligence and coordinate efforts to combat oil theft.
  5. Investigation and prosecution: NNPC will investigate and prosecute any individuals or companies found to be involved in oil theft.

The corporation has also announced plans to increase the number of its security personnel and to provide them with modern equipment and training to enhance their effectiveness.

Oil theft has been a major problem in Nigeria, with estimates suggesting that the country loses billions of dollars in revenue each year due to the theft of oil. The problem has been linked to corruption, lack of effective security measures, and the involvement of organized criminal gangs.

The measures announced by NNPC are aimed at addressing these issues and reducing the incidence of oil theft in the country.
