Nigeria new note
You're referring to the newly redesigned Nigerian currency notes!
In June 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced new designs for the N100, N500, and N1,000 banknotes. Here are some key features of the new notes:
- N100 note: The new N100 note features a portrait of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a Nigerian statesman and philosopher, on the obverse (front side). The reverse (back side) features a collage of Nigerian cultural heritage, including traditional clothing, music, and art.
- N500 note: The new N500 note features a portrait of Margaret Ekpo, a Nigerian women's rights activist, on the obverse. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian women's achievements in various fields, including education, politics, and entrepreneurship.
- N1,000 note: The new N1,000 note features a portrait of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian statesman and politician, on the obverse. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian economic and industrial development, including agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
The new notes have several security features to prevent counterfeiting, including:
- Watermark: A transparent image of the portrait on the obverse side that can be seen when held against light.
- Security thread: A thin strip of material embedded in the paper that glows pink when held against light.
- Raised print: Tactile features that can be felt when running your fingers over the notes.
- Color-shifting ink: The colors on the notes change when viewed from different angles.
- Microprinting: Tiny text that is difficult to read with the naked eye.
These new notes are designed to be more secure, durable, and accessible to people with visual impairments.
