New pound notes
You're referring to the new polymer £20 and £50 banknotes issued by the Bank of England!
The new polymer notes feature:
- £20 note: Featuring Jane Austen, the renowned English novelist, on the obverse (front) side. The reverse (back) side features a quote from her novel "Pride and Prejudice" and a pattern of tiny prints of books and other literary symbols.
- £50 note: Featuring Alan Turing, the British mathematician, computer scientist, and logician, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a quote from his paper "On Computable Numbers" and a pattern of tiny prints of mathematical symbols and codes.
These new polymer notes were introduced to:
- Improve security features to reduce counterfeiting
- Enhance durability and resistance to wear and tear
- Incorporate advanced security features, such as raised print, micro-lettering, and a see-through window
- Feature iconic British figures who have made significant contributions to their respective fields
The new polymer notes are also more environmentally friendly than the previous paper notes, as they are made from a sustainable material that can be recycled.
