New caledonia currency
The official currency of New Caledonia is the Pacific Franc (XPF). It is pegged to the Euro (EUR) at a fixed rate of 1 EUR = 119.33 XPF.
New Caledonia is a special collectivity of France, and as such, the Pacific Franc is also the official currency of France's overseas territories in the Pacific. The currency is issued by the Banque de France, the central bank of France, and is used in New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna.
Coins and banknotes in circulation in New Caledonia include:
- Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 Pacific Francs
- Banknotes: 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 Pacific Francs
It's worth noting that while the Pacific Franc is the official currency, the US Dollar (USD) is widely accepted in New Caledonia, particularly in tourist areas and major cities. Credit cards, such as Visa and Mastercard, are also widely accepted.
