Nerc new tariff
You're referring to the new tariff imposed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)!
As of 2022, NERC introduced a new tariff structure for electricity consumers in Nigeria. The new tariff is designed to reflect the actual cost of generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity to consumers.
Here are some key features of the new tariff:
- New Tariff Structure: The new tariff is based on a cost-reflective structure, which means that the prices are adjusted to reflect the actual costs of providing electricity services.
- Band-Based Tariff: The tariff is divided into five bands, each with a corresponding price range. The bands are:
- Band A (0-50 units): N30.23 per unit
- Band B (51-100 units): N26.23 per unit
- Band C (101-200 units): N22.23 per unit
- Band D (201-500 units): N18.23 per unit
- Band E (above 500 units): N14.23 per unit
- Adjustments for Peak and Off-Peak Hours: The tariff is adjusted to reflect the peak and off-peak hours of electricity consumption. Peak hours are from 7 am to 9 pm, while off-peak hours are from 9 pm to 7 am.
- Discounts for Low-Consumption Customers: Customers who consume less than 50 units of electricity per month are eligible for a 20% discount on their tariff.
- No More Estimated Billing: The new tariff structure eliminates estimated billing, which means that customers will only be billed for the actual amount of electricity they consume.
The new tariff is expected to improve the efficiency of the electricity sector in Nigeria by encouraging consumers to reduce their energy consumption and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
