Nasarawa governor sacks polytechnic rector others

According to reports, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has sacked the Rector of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Professor Shammah Hassan, and other principal officers of the institution.

The sack was announced in a statement issued by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Muyiwa Andrew Oguniyi, on Tuesday.

The statement said the decision to sack the Rector and other principal officers was taken due to their alleged poor performance and failure to meet the expectations of the institution.

The statement also mentioned that the Governor has appointed a new Acting Rector, Dr. Muhammad Bello, to take over the affairs of the polytechnic.

The sack of the Rector and other principal officers has been met with mixed reactions from students and staff of the institution, with some calling for the Governor to reconsider his decision, while others have expressed support for the move.

It is worth noting that the Governor's decision to sack the Rector and other principal officers is not the first time such a move has been made in the state. In 2020, the Governor had also sacked the Rector of the Nasarawa State University, Professor Mohammed Mainoma, and replaced him with a new Acting Rector.

The development is a significant one in the education sector of the state, and it remains to be seen how the new Acting Rector will perform and what impact his appointment will have on the institution.
