Lagos nlc demands 400 increase in workers allowances

According to recent reports, the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded a 400% increase in the allowances of workers in the state.

The demand was made by the NLC Lagos State Council Chairman, Gbenga Komolafe, during a press conference held at the NLC secretariat in Lagos. Komolafe stated that the current allowance structure is unsustainable and has led to a significant decline in the standard of living of workers in the state.

The NLC is seeking a review of the allowance structure to ensure that workers are adequately compensated for their services. The union is also demanding that the state government should implement the minimum wage of N30,000 per month, which was agreed upon by the federal government and the organized labour in 2019.

Komolafe emphasized that the NLC is not asking for a handout, but rather a fair and reasonable adjustment to the allowance structure to reflect the current economic realities in the state. He also warned that if the state government fails to meet the demands of the NLC, the union may be forced to take industrial action.

The Lagos State government has not yet responded to the demands of the NLC, but the union is expected to continue to push for the implementation of its demands. The outcome of this development will be closely watched by workers and employers in the state, as it could have a significant impact on the economy and the standard of living of workers in Lagos.
