Insecurity: Gani Adams Faults South West Govs on Recruitment of Private Security

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has faulted the decision of South West governors to recruit private security outfits to tackle the rising insecurity in the region.

Adams, who is also the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), made this known in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to him, the decision to recruit private security outfits is a misplaced priority, as it would only create more problems than it would solve.

He said, "The decision to recruit private security outfits is a wrong approach to tackling the insecurity in the South West. It is a misplaced priority. What we need is a comprehensive approach to addressing the root causes of the insecurity, not just recruiting private security outfits.

"We need to address the issue of poverty, unemployment, and lack of education, which are some of the major causes of the insecurity in the region. We also need to strengthen our traditional security structures, such as the OPC, and provide them with the necessary resources to enable them to effectively carry out their duties.

"Recruiting private security outfits will only create more problems than it would solve. It will lead to more conflicts and rivalries between different security outfits, and it will also create an environment where criminals can thrive.

"We need to adopt a more holistic approach to addressing the insecurity in the South West. We need to work together as a region to address the root causes of the insecurity, and we need to provide our traditional security structures with the necessary resources to enable them to effectively carry out their duties."

Adams also called on the South West governors to provide more support to the OPC and other traditional security outfits in the region, saying that they are the ones who have been fighting to protect the people of the region.

He said, "The OPC and other traditional security outfits in the South West have been fighting to protect the people of the region, and they need more support from the government. They need more resources, more training, and more equipment to enable them to effectively carry out their duties.

"We need to recognize the role that these traditional security outfits play in maintaining law and order in the region, and we need to provide them with the necessary support to enable them to continue to do their job effectively."

The Aare Ona Kakanfo also called on the people of the South West to remain vigilant and to continue to support the efforts of the OPC and other traditional security outfits in the region.

He said, "We need to remain vigilant and to continue to support the efforts of the OPC and other traditional security outfits in the region. We need to work together to address the insecurity in the South West, and we need to provide our traditional security structures with the necessary resources to enable them to effectively carry out their duties."
