Speech by President Muhammadu Buhari on Nigeria's 60th Independence Anniversary

Fellow Nigerians,

Today, we mark 60 years of our nation's independence from colonial rule. This milestone is a testament to the resilience and determination of our founding fathers who fought for our freedom and the sacrifices they made to ensure our nation's sovereignty.

As we celebrate this milestone, we must acknowledge the challenges we have faced as a nation. We have faced many challenges, including economic downturns, security threats, and social injustices. However, we have also made significant progress in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure development, and education.

As we look to the future, we must continue to work together to build a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. We must continue to promote unity, tolerance, and understanding among our diverse ethnic and religious groups. We must also continue to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability in our public institutions.

As we mark this milestone, I want to acknowledge the sacrifices of our heroes past, who fought for our freedom and the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who continue to defend our nation's sovereignty.

I also want to acknowledge the contributions of our citizens, who have worked hard to build our nation and make it what it is today. From our farmers to our artisans, from our entrepreneurs to our workers, from our students to our professionals, every single one of you has played a role in shaping our nation's history.

As we celebrate this milestone, I want to assure you that my administration is committed to continuing to work for the betterment of our nation. We will continue to work to improve our economy, to promote peace and security, and to provide opportunities for our citizens to thrive.

I want to assure you that we will not relent in our efforts to tackle the challenges we face as a nation. We will continue to work to address the root causes of poverty, inequality, and insecurity. We will continue to work to promote unity and cohesion among our people. And we will continue to work to build a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all.

Fellow Nigerians, as we mark this milestone, I want to remind you that our nation's independence is not just a celebration of our past, but also a call to action for our future. It is a reminder that we have a responsibility to build a better future for ourselves and for generations yet to come.

So, let us continue to work together to build a nation that is worthy of our founding fathers' sacrifices. Let us continue to work together to build a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. And let us continue to work together to build a nation that is a beacon of hope and inspiration to the world.

Thank you, and God bless Nigeria.
