First novel coronavirus death in belgium
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Belgian Ministry of Public Health, the first reported death from COVID-19 in Belgium was on February 18, 2020.
The patient was a 89-year-old man who had been hospitalized in the city of Bruges, in the Flanders region of Belgium. He had underlying health conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart disease.
The patient had been admitted to the hospital on February 14, 2020, with symptoms of pneumonia and was later confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19. Despite receiving treatment, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away on February 18, 2020.
This was the first reported death from COVID-19 in Belgium, and it marked the beginning of the country's response to the pandemic.
