Federal judicial service commission recommends justice onnoghen new cjn
I think there may be some confusion here.
To clarify, the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) did not recommend Justice Walter Onnoghen as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). In fact, Justice Onnoghen was the CJN who was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 25, 2019, following allegations of non-declaration of assets and other financial infractions.
The suspension was followed by a trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), which found Justice Onnoghen guilty of the charges and sentenced him to a fine. He was subsequently removed as CJN and replaced by Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.
It's worth noting that the process of appointing a new CJN is governed by the Nigerian Constitution and the Judicial Service Commission Act. The FJSC is responsible for recommending candidates for the position of CJN to the President, who then appoints the candidate with the approval of the Senate.
In this case, the FJSC did not recommend Justice Onnoghen as the new CJN, as he was already suspended and subsequently removed from office.
