The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Chairman of the Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Godwin Aboh, before a Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State, for alleged fraud.
According to a statement issued by the EFCC, Aboh was arraigned on a 10-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, and obtaining by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that Aboh, while serving as the Chairman of NULGE, Benue State, diverted N10 million meant for the payment of salaries of local government workers in the state.
The anti-graft agency also alleged that Aboh, in collaboration with others, forged documents to facilitate the diversion of the funds.
The EFCC said that the alleged fraud was committed between 2018 and 2019.
Aboh pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.
The trial judge, Justice A.M. Liman, granted Aboh bail in the sum of N5 million and two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to March 15, 2023, for further hearing.
It is worth noting that the EFCC has been working to rid the country of corruption and has been successful in prosecuting many high-profile cases in recent times.
