Title: COVID-19 LASG Sensitizes Community Religious Leaders to Prevent Larger Outbreak

Lagos, Nigeria - The Lagos State Government (LASG) has launched a sensitization program for religious leaders in the state to educate them on the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19 in their communities.

The program, which was held at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, brought together religious leaders from various denominations and faiths to receive information and guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, emphasized the critical role that religious leaders play in promoting public health and preventing the spread of diseases. "As religious leaders, you have a unique opportunity to influence the behavior of your followers and promote healthy practices," he said. "We urge you to use your platforms to educate your congregations on the importance of washing their hands, wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing."

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of early detection and reporting of suspected cases of COVID-19. "We need your help to identify and report suspected cases of COVID-19 to the authorities," he said. "This will enable us to take prompt action to contain the spread of the virus and prevent a larger outbreak."

The religious leaders were also briefed on the symptoms of COVID-19, the modes of transmission, and the measures that can be taken to prevent the spread of the virus. They were also provided with information on how to access testing and treatment services for suspected cases of COVID-19.

The sensitization program was attended by religious leaders from various denominations, including Christianity, Islam, and traditional religions. The event was facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs and the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, Reverend Dr. Samuel Oyelekan, commended the LASG for the initiative. "We appreciate the efforts of the government to engage with us and educate us on the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19," he said. "We will work with the government to ensure that our congregations are informed and empowered to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the virus."

The sensitization program is part of the LASG's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state. The government has also implemented various measures to contain the spread of the virus, including the establishment of isolation centers, the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers, and the enforcement of social distancing measures.
