Here is a comprehension story on "The Emperor's New Clothes" for Grade 1:

The Emperor's New Clothes

Once upon a time, there was a kind and gentle Emperor who loved to wear beautiful clothes. One day, two swindlers came to the Emperor's palace. They said they could make him the most magnificent clothes in all the land.

The Emperor was very excited and asked them to make him a new suit. The swindlers said, "We will make you a suit that is invisible to anyone who is unfit for their position or 'hopelessly stupid'."

The Emperor thought this was a wonderful idea and gave them a lot of money to make the suit. The swindlers took the money and ran away. They didn't make any clothes at all!

When the Emperor put on the "new clothes", he looked in the mirror and said, "Oh, I look wonderful!" But when he walked out of his room, all the people in the palace saw that he was wearing nothing at all!

Everyone was very quiet and didn't say anything. But then, a little boy in the crowd spoke up and said, "But he's not wearing any clothes!"

The Emperor was very surprised and asked the boy why he said that. The boy said, "Because I can see that he's not wearing any clothes!"

The Emperor was very happy that someone was honest and said, "You are right, my young friend. I am not wearing any clothes!"

From that day on, the Emperor learned to be more careful when buying clothes, and the swindlers never tricked anyone again.
