Breaking court grants metuh n400m bail

According to reports, the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, N400 million bail.

Metuh was arrested in November 2015 and charged with money laundering and corruption in connection with the alleged misappropriation of N400 million meant for the PDP's 2015 presidential campaign.

The court granted Metuh bail in the sum of N400 million with two sureties, one of whom must be a senior civil servant or a retired judge. The court also ordered Metuh to deposit his international passport with the court and to report to the court every two weeks.

Metuh's lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, had earlier applied for bail, citing his client's poor health and the fact that he had been in custody for over two years. The prosecution had opposed the bail application, arguing that Metuh was a flight risk and that he had the means to flee the country.

The court's decision to grant Metuh bail is seen as a significant development in the case, which has been ongoing for several years. Metuh's lawyers have argued that he is innocent and that the charges against him are politically motivated.

It is worth noting that Metuh's bail is subject to certain conditions, including the deposit of his international passport with the court and regular reporting to the court.
