Block new tab ads chrome
The pesky new tab ads! Here are a few ways to block them in Chrome:
Method 1: AdBlocker Extensions
- Install an ad blocker extension like:
- uBlock Origin
- AdBlock Plus
- Ghostery
- AdGuard
- Enable the extension by clicking the icon in the top right corner of your Chrome browser.
- Make sure the extension is set to block new tab ads.
Method 2: Chrome's Built-in Ad Blocking
- Go to Chrome's settings by clicking the three vertical dots in the top right corner of your browser.
- Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and click on "Content settings".
- Under "Content settings", click on "Ads".
- Toggle the switch next to "Block ads on sites that show intrusive or misleading ads" to the "On" position.
- Chrome will now block new tab ads.
Method 3: Hosts File Modification
- Download and install a hosts file editor like "Hosts Editor" or "Edit Hosts File".
- Open the hosts file editor and add the following lines at the end of the file:
0.0.0.0 newtab.google.com 0.0.0.0 newtab.google-analytics.com
- Save the changes to the hosts file.
- Restart your Chrome browser.
Method 4: Chrome Flags
- Type
chrome://flags
in your Chrome address bar and press Enter. - Search for "New Tab Page" and click on the dropdown menu next to it.
- Select "Disabled" or "Custom" and enter
about:newtab
as the custom URL. - Restart your Chrome browser.
Method 5: Browser Reset
- Go to Chrome's settings by clicking the three vertical dots in the top right corner of your browser.
- Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and click on "Reset and clean up Google Chrome".
- Click on "Reset settings" and confirm the reset.
- This will reset Chrome to its default settings, including disabling new tab ads.
Remember that some of these methods may require you to restart your Chrome browser or computer. Additionally, some new tab ads may still appear if they are served from a different domain or if the ad blocker or hosts file modification is not effective.
