Benik afobe pulls out of afcon 2017 to focus on bournemouth

Benik Afobe has indeed pulled out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to focus on his club career with Bournemouth.

Afobe, a striker for the English Premier League club, was initially named in the 28-man squad for the tournament, which was held in Gabon from January 14 to February 5, 2017. However, he later withdrew from the squad to concentrate on his club form and fitness.

At the time, Afobe's decision was seen as a surprise, as he had been in good form for Bournemouth, scoring 10 goals in 22 appearances in the Premier League. His withdrawal from the AFCON squad meant that the Ivory Coast, who were the defending champions, had to find a replacement for him.

Afobe's decision to prioritize his club career over international duty was likely influenced by the fact that he was still relatively new to the Premier League and wanted to establish himself as a regular starter for Bournemouth. He has since continued to play for the club, making over 100 appearances and scoring over 20 goals.
