Austria bans gatherings of more than five people
That's correct. On November 17, 2020, Austria's government announced a new set of measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, including a ban on gatherings of more than five people.
The new rules, which came into effect on November 17, prohibit gatherings of more than five people in public spaces, including streets, parks, and squares. This includes both indoor and outdoor gatherings, and applies to all age groups.
The ban also applies to events and celebrations, such as weddings, birthday parties, and Christmas markets. However, there are some exceptions, such as:
- Funerals and memorial services, which are limited to 10 people
- Religious services, which are limited to 10 people
- Outdoor events, such as sports matches and concerts, which are limited to 5,000 people or less
- Indoor events, such as theater performances and exhibitions, which are limited to 500 people or less
The government has also introduced other measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including:
- A curfew from 8pm to 6am, during which people are only allowed to leave their homes for essential reasons
- A ban on travel to and from certain high-risk areas
- Mandatory mask-wearing in public spaces
- Increased testing and contact tracing
These measures are in place until December 6, 2020, and may be extended or modified depending on the situation.
