As of 2022, the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi State, Nigeria has been renamed to the "Federal Polytechnic, Abakaliki".

The name change was announced by the Federal Government of Nigeria in a bid to rebrand and reposition the institution for greater academic excellence and national relevance.

So, from now on, the institution will be officially known as the Federal Polytechnic, Abakaliki.
