The Problem:
The problem is that we often get stuck in our ways. We get comfortable with the familiar, even if it's not good for us. We get stuck in our routines, our habits, our thought patterns. And before we know it, we're feeling stagnant, stuck, and unfulfilled.
But God is not a God of stagnation. He is a God of movement, of progress, of growth. And He wants to help us break free from the things that are holding us back and start anew.
The Promise:
In Isaiah 43:18-19, God says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
God is saying, "Forget about the past. Don't dwell on the things that have gone wrong. Don't get stuck in the memories of what could have been. Instead, look to the future. I am doing a new thing! I am making a way for you, even in the desert places of your life."
And in 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul writes, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
This is the promise of God. If you are in Christ, you are a new creation. The old has gone, and the new has come. You are not the same person you were yesterday. You are not the same person you were five years ago. You are a new creation, made new in Christ.
The Application:
So what does this mean for us? It means that we can leave the past behind and start anew. It means that we can break free from the things that are holding us back and start moving forward.
It means that we can take a deep breath and say, "I am a new creation in Christ. The old has gone, and the new has come."
It means that we can start fresh, with a clean slate. It means that we can start anew, with a heart full of hope and a spirit full of joy.
The Challenge:
So I want to challenge you today to take a step of faith. To leave the past behind and start anew. To trust God to make a way for you, even in the desert places of your life.
