A ibom elections tribunal group accuses apc of delay tactics
It seems like there's a developing story in Nigeria!
According to reports, the Akwa Ibom State Election Petitions Tribunal has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using delay tactics to frustrate the hearing of a petition filed by the APC challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
The tribunal, which is headed by Justice R. O. Ayoyinka, made this accusation in a ruling delivered on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The tribunal stated that the APC's counsel, Mr. U. U. Udom, had been using various tactics to delay the hearing of the petition, including filing unnecessary applications and making frivolous objections.
The tribunal also expressed frustration with the APC's failure to provide evidence to support its claims, saying that the party had not been able to provide any credible evidence to prove its allegations of electoral fraud and irregularities.
The PDP, which is the respondent in the petition, had earlier accused the APC of using the tribunal to perpetuate a political vendetta against the state government.
It's worth noting that the APC had earlier filed a petition challenging the victory of the PDP's candidate, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, in the 2019 governorship election. The party alleged that the election was marred by irregularities and fraud, and that the results were manipulated to favor the PDP.
The tribunal's ruling is a significant development in the ongoing electoral dispute in Akwa Ibom State, and it remains to be seen how the parties will respond to the accusations and allegations made by the tribunal.
