Zimbabwe new notes
You're referring to the new banknotes introduced by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) in 2019!
In June 2019, the RBZ introduced a new series of banknotes to replace the old ones, which had become worn out and were no longer suitable for circulation. The new notes were designed to be more durable and secure, with advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting.
Here are the details of the new banknotes:
- $2 note: The new $2 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Joshua Nkomo, on the obverse (front side) and a Zimbabwean landscape on the reverse (back side).
- $5 note: The new $5 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Robert Mugabe, on the obverse and a Zimbabwean wildlife scene on the reverse.
- $10 note: The new $10 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Herbert Chitepo, on the obverse and a Zimbabwean agricultural scene on the reverse.
- $20 note: The new $20 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Josiah Tongogara, on the obverse and a Zimbabwean industrial scene on the reverse.
- $50 note: The new $50 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Edgar Tekere, on the obverse and a Zimbabwean tourism scene on the reverse.
- $100 note: The new $100 note features a portrait of the late national hero, Cde. Lookout Masuku, on the obverse and a Zimbabwean cultural scene on the reverse.
These new banknotes were introduced to improve the country's financial system and to reduce the use of cash in transactions, promoting electronic payments and digital banking.
