WITNESS TESTIFIES HOW AMOSU CONVERTED N1.8 BILLION FOR PRIVATE USE

A witness in the ongoing trial of a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, has testified that the defendant converted N1.8 billion meant for the procurement of aircraft spare parts for private use.

The witness, a former Director of Finance and Accounts in the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Gbenga Olowo, made the revelation while being led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN).

According to Olowo, the N1.8 billion was part of the N3.9 billion meant for the procurement of aircraft spare parts, but Amosu diverted the funds to his personal use.

The witness further testified that Amosu, in collaboration with other accused persons, including a former Chief of Accounts and Budget, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Adigun, and a former Director of Procurement, Air Commodore Olusola Amosu, siphoned the funds meant for the procurement of aircraft spare parts.

Olowo also testified that the accused persons used the diverted funds to purchase properties, including a house in Abuja, and to fund their personal businesses.

The witness's testimony is the latest in a series of revelations that have emerged during the trial, which has been ongoing since 2016.

Amosu and his co-accused are facing charges of fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.
