Why court suspended oshiomhole as apc national chairman
The Court of Appeal in Abuja suspended Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 13, 2020. The suspension was a result of a ruling by the court in a suit filed by the APC's National Working Committee (NWC) against Oshiomhole.
The NWC had accused Oshiomhole of gross misconduct, including:
- Violating the party's constitution by allowing parallel congresses in several states, which led to the emergence of multiple factions within the party.
- Failing to conduct a transparent and fair primary election for the Edo State governorship election in 2019.
- Using his office to intimidate and harass party members who opposed him.
- Engaging in corrupt practices, including accepting bribes from party members seeking his support.
The court ruled that Oshiomhole's actions constituted a breach of the party's constitution and the principles of natural justice, and therefore, he was suspended as the National Chairman of the APC.
The court also ordered Oshiomhole to stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the APC and to hand over all party properties and documents to the Deputy National Chairman, Victor Giadom.
The suspension was a major blow to Oshiomhole's leadership of the APC, and it led to a power vacuum within the party. However, Oshiomhole has since appealed the court's decision, and the matter is still pending in the courts.
