In the Bible, Jacob's new name was Israel. This change occurred after Jacob wrestled with an angel (Genesis 32:22-33) and the angel gave him a new name, saying, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed" (Genesis 32:28).
