  4. Young Boys (Switzerland) - Qualified through the Swiss Super League

Teams returning after a hiatus:

  1. Red Star Belgrade (Serbia) - Qualified through the Serbian Super Liga, after a 26-year absence
  2. Crvena Zvezda (Serbia) - Same as above, also known as Red Star Belgrade

Teams that changed their name:

  1. Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel) - Changed their name from Maccabi Tel Aviv FC to Maccabi Tel Aviv

These teams replaced the teams that were eliminated in the previous season's Champions League, and also included the winners of the domestic leagues in their respective countries.
