US Navy Aircraft Crashes Off Japanese Coast, 8 Rescued

A US Navy aircraft crashed into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Japan on Wednesday, resulting in the rescue of all eight crew members on board.

The EA-18G Growler, a twin-engine, twin-tailed electronic warfare aircraft, went down approximately 100 miles (160 kilometers) off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, at around 10:30 am local time.

The Japanese Coast Guard received a distress call from the aircraft and quickly dispatched rescue vessels to the scene. The crew members were rescued from the water and taken aboard the coast guard ships.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the US Navy has confirmed that the aircraft was on a routine training mission at the time of the incident.

"We are grateful that all eight crew members were rescued and are safe," said Commander Mike Kafka, a US Navy spokesperson. "We are working closely with the Japanese Coast Guard to investigate the cause of the crash and will provide more information as it becomes available."

The incident is the latest in a series of accidents involving US military aircraft in recent years. In 2019, a US Navy F/A-18 Hornet crashed into the sea off the coast of Japan, killing both pilots on board.
