Updated supreme court nullifies apcs participation in zamfara elections
I think there may be some confusion here. The Supreme Court of Nigeria did not nullify the participation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Zamfara elections. In fact, the Supreme Court's decision was the opposite.
On February 13, 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that the APC was not validly nominated in the 2019 general elections in Zamfara State, and therefore, its candidates were not qualified to participate in the elections. This decision was made after the APC had already won the governorship and state assembly elections in Zamfara State.
The court's decision was based on a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which alleged that the APC did not conduct valid primaries in Zamfara State. The Supreme Court agreed with the PDP's argument, ruling that the APC's failure to conduct valid primaries rendered its candidates ineligible to participate in the elections.
As a result, the Supreme Court declared that the APC's candidates did not participate in the elections, and therefore, the elections held in Zamfara State were invalid. The court ordered fresh elections to be conducted in the state.
So, to clarify, the Supreme Court did not nullify the APC's participation in the Zamfara elections, but rather ruled that the party's candidates were not validly nominated and therefore did not participate in the elections.
