University of ibadan may reopen in next few weeks vc
According to recent reports, the University of Ibadan (UI) may reopen in the next few weeks. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka.
Professor Olayinka stated that the university is working towards reopening as soon as possible, pending the outcome of the ongoing negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other stakeholders.
The university has been closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent industrial actions by ASUU. The union has been demanding improved welfare packages, including the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances, as well as the implementation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the university will reopen soon, saying that the management is working tirelessly to resolve the outstanding issues and ensure a smooth reopening.
It's worth noting that the university's reopening is subject to the outcome of the ongoing negotiations and the approval of the necessary protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety of students and staff.
