Unilag students invent flood level caution device to save road users
That's a great news!
According to reports, a team of students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have invented a flood level caution device to save road users from the dangers of flooding. The device, which is a sensor-based system, is designed to detect flood levels on roads and alert drivers and pedestrians of potential hazards.
The invention is a response to the frequent flooding experienced in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, which often leads to accidents, damage to properties, and loss of lives. The device is expected to reduce the risk of accidents and save lives by providing real-time information on flood levels to road users.
The team of students, led by their supervisor, Dr. Olusegun Folorunsho, a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, UNILAG, designed the device to be installed on roads and bridges. The device uses sensors to detect changes in water levels and sends alerts to drivers and pedestrians through a mobile app or SMS.
The device is also equipped with a warning system that alerts road users of impending flood risks, giving them enough time to take necessary precautions. The system can also be integrated with traffic management systems to redirect traffic away from flooded areas.
The invention is a testament to the innovative spirit of Nigerian students and the potential for technology to solve real-world problems. It is also a reminder of the importance of investing in research and development to address the challenges facing our society.
The device has been tested on some roads in Lagos and has shown promising results. The team is now working with the Lagos State Government to deploy the device on more roads and make it a standard feature on Nigerian roads.
Kudos to the UNILAG students and their supervisor for this innovative invention!
