The blood donation drive, organized by the UNILAG Students' Union, aimed to alleviate the suffering of children living with sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder that affects the production of hemoglobin in the blood.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sickle cell disease is a major public health concern in Nigeria, with an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 new cases reported annually.

The UNILAG students, led by their union president, Mr. Olamide Adeyemi, visited LUTH to donate blood to the sickle cell child patients. The students were screened and tested before donating blood to ensure their safety and the safety of the patients.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Adeyemi said, "As students of UNILAG, we believe it is our responsibility to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. We are happy to be able to donate blood to these children and help alleviate their suffering."

The blood donation drive was a huge success, with over 50 students donating blood. The donated blood will be used to treat sickle cell child patients at LUTH and other hospitals in Lagos.

The event was attended by officials from LUTH, including the hospital's Chief Medical Director, Dr. Olufemi Olugbile, who commended the UNILAG students for their kindness and generosity.

Dr. Olugbile said, "We are grateful to the UNILAG students for their selfless act. Blood donation is a vital part of medical treatment, and we appreciate their willingness to help our patients."

The UNILAG Students' Union has pledged to continue organizing blood donation drives and other community service projects to make a positive impact on society.
