Unilag newly admitted students to undergo drug test
According to recent reports, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced that newly admitted students will undergo a drug test as part of the university's efforts to maintain a drug-free campus.
The decision was made by the university's management in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Lagos State Government.
The drug test is aimed at identifying and preventing the use of drugs among students, as well as promoting a healthy and safe learning environment.
According to the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the decision to conduct the drug test was taken to ensure that students are not exposed to the dangers of drug abuse, which can have negative effects on their academic performance, health, and overall well-being.
The drug test will be conducted during the orientation program for newly admitted students, which is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
It's worth noting that the university has also set up a drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation center to provide support and counseling services to students who may be struggling with drug addiction.
The decision to conduct the drug test has been welcomed by many students and parents, who see it as a positive step towards promoting a healthy and safe learning environment.
However, some students have expressed concerns about the privacy and confidentiality of the drug test, and have called for more information about the process and the consequences of failing the test.
Overall, the decision to conduct the drug test is seen as a proactive step by UNILAG to promote a drug-free campus and to ensure that students are able to focus on their academic pursuits without the negative effects of drug abuse.
