One person has died while two others were injured after two vehicles were involved in a high impact head-on collision on the N14 in the Khathu area, Northern Cape. 

The incident reportedly happened around 04:00 on Saturday, 2 July. 


According to Emer-G-Med, on arrival on scene, a Toyota Fortuner and a Volkswagen Polo were involved in a high impact collision. 

Three occupants of the Toyota were ejected from the vehicle.

Closer inspection found an adult male to be dead on arrival of paramedics whilst a female and male both aged in their thirties, suffered serious injuries.

“Advanced Life Support paramedics worked fervently to stabilise them before they were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further medical care.

“It is alleged the driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene, however the South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly.”


In a separate incident, a man was killed after a bakkie and truck were also involved in a collision on the N1 highway outside Polokwane in Limpopo, on Thursday, 30 June.

According to ER24, its paramedics and other services arrived at the scene to find the bakkie on the road while the truck had stopped some distance away in the emergency lane.

On closer inspection, medics found a man lying trapped inside the bakkie in a critical condition.

“Rescue Services had to use specialised equipment to free the man from the bakkie. 

“Once released, medics treated the man and provided him with advanced life support before he was transported to Mediclinic Limpopo for urgent care. Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.”
