Theresa May warns EU of pattern of Russian aggression

British Prime Minister Theresa May has warned the European Union of a "pattern of Russian aggression" and urged the bloc to take a united stance against Moscow's actions.

May made the comments during a meeting with EU leaders in Brussels, where she called for a strong response to Russia's actions in Ukraine and its alleged meddling in European elections.

"We must be clear-eyed about the threat that Russia poses," May said. "We have seen a pattern of Russian aggression, from Ukraine to Georgia, from Syria to the Baltic states. We must stand together to counter this threat and to defend our values and our way of life."

May's comments come amid growing tensions between Russia and the West over a range of issues, including the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the UK, and Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

The EU has imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine, and May is urging the bloc to maintain a united front against Moscow.

"We must continue to work together to counter Russian disinformation and propaganda, to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to hold Russia accountable for its actions," May said.

The EU has also been critical of Russia's actions in Syria, where it has backed the government of President Bashar al-Assad in its fight against rebel groups.

May's comments were echoed by other EU leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, who have also expressed concerns about Russia's actions.

"We must be firm and united in our response to Russian aggression," Merkel said. "We will not be intimidated or deterred by Russia's actions."

Macron added: "We must defend our values and our way of life, and we must do so together. We will not let Russia divide us or undermine our unity."

The EU is set to hold a summit later this month to discuss its response to Russia's actions and to consider imposing further sanctions on Moscow.
