The new naira note
You're referring to the redesigned Nigerian naira note!
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) recently introduced new naira notes to replace the existing ones. The new notes are designed to be more secure and difficult to counterfeit. Here are some key features of the new naira notes:
New Naira Notes:
- N200: The new N200 note features a portrait of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a Nigerian statesman and philosopher, on the obverse (front) side. The reverse (back) side features a collage of Nigerian cultural heritage, including traditional clothing, music, and art.
- N500: The new N500 note features a portrait of Dr. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a Nigerian statesman and leader of the Biafran secessionist movement, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian agricultural and industrial development.
- N1000: The new N1000 note features a portrait of Dr. Muhammadu Buhari, the current President of Nigeria, on the obverse side. The reverse side features a collage of Nigerian natural resources, including oil, gas, and agricultural products.
Security Features:
The new naira notes have several security features to prevent counterfeiting, including:
- Watermark: A transparent image of the portrait of the featured personality is embedded in the paper.
- Security Thread: A thin strip of material embedded in the paper that glows pink when held under UV light.
- Micro-Printing: Tiny text and images that are difficult to reproduce.
- Raised Printing: Raised patterns and textures that can be felt when running your fingers over the note.
- Color-Shifting Ink: The colors on the note change when viewed from different angles.
The CBN has also introduced a mobile app, "Naira Redesign," to help Nigerians verify the authenticity of the new naira notes.
