Tag national super alliance
The National Super Alliance (NASA) is a political alliance in Kenya that was formed in 2016. The alliance was formed by several opposition parties, including:
- Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) - led by Raila Odinga
- Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) - led by Kalonzo Musyoka
- Ford-Kenya (FK) - led by Moses Wetangula
- National Super Alliance Party (NASA-P) - led by Musalia Mudavadi
The alliance was formed to challenge the ruling Jubilee Party in the 2017 general elections. NASA's presidential candidate was Raila Odinga, who lost the election to Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Party.
NASA's main goals were to:
- Challenge the legitimacy of the 2017 general elections
- Advocate for electoral reforms
- Promote unity and cohesion among Kenyans
- Address issues of poverty, inequality, and corruption
However, the alliance faced several challenges, including:
- Infighting and disagreements among its leaders
- Allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds
- Lack of a clear policy agenda
- Failure to present a united front in the 2017 general elections
In 2018, NASA's leaders announced that they would not participate in the repeat presidential election, citing irregularities in the electoral process. The alliance has since been inactive, and its leaders have pursued other political interests.
