Makarfi faction!
The Makarfi faction, also known as the PDP Reconciliation Committee, was a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The faction emerged in 2016 after a leadership crisis in the party, which was sparked by the suspension of the party's national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, by the Court of Appeal.
The Makarfi faction was formed by a group of PDP members who were opposed to Sheriff's leadership and wanted to restore the party's unity and integrity. The faction was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was seen as the legitimate leadership of the party by many PDP members and supporters.
The faction was known for its efforts to reconcile the party's warring factions and to rebuild the party's structure and infrastructure. Under Makarfi's leadership, the faction was able to win back some of the party's lost ground and to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in several states.
However, the faction's leadership was eventually challenged by another faction led by Sheriff, which was recognized by the Supreme Court in 2017. The Supreme Court ruling led to a split in the party, with some members supporting Makarfi's faction and others supporting Sheriff's faction.
Despite the challenges, the Makarfi faction remains an important part of the PDP's history and a symbol of the party's resilience and determination to survive and thrive in Nigerian politics.
