EFCC Arrests Nigerian Who Duped Vietnamese Woman of ₦145 Million in Love Scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Nigerian man who allegedly defrauded a Vietnamese woman of ₦145 million (approximately $350,000) in a love scam.
According to reports, the suspect, whose name has not been released, posed as a wealthy businessman and wooed the Vietnamese woman online, promising her a life of luxury and happiness. He allegedly sent her fake documents and photos to gain her trust, and eventually convinced her to send him large sums of money.
The EFCC received a complaint from the Vietnamese woman, who reported that she had been defrauded of ₦145 million by the suspect. The Commission launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect to his hideout in Lagos.
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, where he is currently being questioned by EFCC officials. The Commission has also recovered some of the stolen funds and is working to track down the rest.
This is not the first time that love scams have been reported in Nigeria. In recent years, there have been several cases of Nigerians using social media and online dating platforms to defraud unsuspecting victims, often with devastating consequences.
The EFCC has warned Nigerians to be cautious when engaging in online relationships and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The Commission has also called on international partners to collaborate in the fight against online fraud.
