History
Balad Air Base, also known as Joint Base Balad, was a United States military base in Iraq. It was established in 2005 and was used as a major logistics and supply hub for coalition forces in Iraq. The base was home to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing, which operated C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.
Current Status
In 2011, the US military began to withdraw its forces from Iraq, and Balad Air Base was officially closed in December 2011. The base was then handed over to the Iraqi government, which has since used it as a military base.
