Tag dismissal
A "tag dismissal" is a type of dismissal in cricket where a batsman is dismissed by a fielder catching a ball that has been hit by the batsman, but has not yet reached the boundary.
In a tag dismissal, the fielder who catches the ball is not required to touch the boundary rope or the ground before taking the catch. Instead, they can simply catch the ball in the air or after it has bounced once, and the batsman is considered out.
Tag dismissals are often referred to as "one-handed" or "in-the-air" catches, as the fielder does not need to use both hands to catch the ball or touch the ground to complete the catch.
Examples of tag dismissals include:
- A fielder catching a ball hit by a batsman in the air, without it touching the ground.
- A fielder catching a ball that has bounced once before being caught.
- A fielder catching a ball that has been hit in the air and has not yet reached the boundary.
Tag dismissals are considered a type of "catch" dismissal, and are scored as such in the scorebook.
