RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Michael Phelps won his 20th Olympic gold medal on Saturday, anchoring the United States to victory in the 4x100m medley relay at the Rio Olympics.
Phelps, who is retiring from competitive swimming after the Games, swam the final leg of the relay, helping the U.S. team to a time of 3:27.95 and a comfortable victory over Great Britain.
The 31-year-old Phelps, who has won 23 Olympic medals overall, including 18 golds, has been a dominant force in the pool throughout his career.
"I'm just grateful to be here," Phelps said in a post-race interview. "I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to compete at this level for so long."
