Syrian city are held by the fight in islamic state
As of 2021, the Islamic State (ISIS) no longer controls any major cities in Syria. However, the group still maintains a presence in certain areas, particularly in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country.
Here are some of the cities and towns in Syria that were previously held by ISIS:
- Raqqa: The capital of the Islamic State's self-proclaimed caliphate, Raqqa was captured by ISIS in 2013 and remained under its control until October 2017, when the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated the city.
- Deir ez-Zor: ISIS captured Deir ez-Zor in 2014 and held it until September 2017, when the SDF and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) recaptured the city.
- Palmyra: ISIS captured Palmyra in May 2015 and held it until March 2016, when the SAA recaptured the city.
- Manbij: ISIS captured Manbij in August 2014 and held it until August 2016, when the SDF liberated the city.
- Tabqa: ISIS captured Tabqa in August 2014 and held it until March 2017, when the SDF liberated the city.
- Al-Bab: ISIS captured Al-Bab in February 2015 and held it until February 2017, when the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) liberated the city.
