Stop using post utme admit students fg warns universities
According to a recent report, the Federal Government of Nigeria has warned universities to stop using Post-UTME (Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) as a means of admitting students.
The warning was given by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, during a meeting with vice-chancellors of universities in Abuja. The minister stated that the use of Post-UTME as a means of admission is no longer acceptable and that universities should focus on using the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scores as the primary means of admission.
The minister emphasized that the use of Post-UTME is a form of multiple examination, which is not in line with the country's education policy. He also noted that the use of Post-UTME has led to a lot of problems, including corruption, extortion, and exploitation of students.
The minister directed universities to henceforth use the UTME scores as the primary means of admission, and to only conduct Post-UTME for students who have already been admitted based on their UTME scores. He also warned that any university that fails to comply with this directive will face severe consequences.
This development is a significant step towards reforming the university admission process in Nigeria, and it is expected to bring about a more transparent and fair system of admission.
